Harry and Martha Bartel served as pioneer pastors and missionaries in the AG. Harry began his ministry in the Mennonite Brethren Church and in 1938, at age 19, helped pioneer his first church. Harry and Martha went to Colombia, South America, as missionaries in 1948. After Martha received the baptism in the Holy Spirit in 1950, and Harry received the H.S. baptism in 1954, they transferred to the Assemblies of God. The Bartels oversaw a decade of phenomenal growth in Colombia during which the AG grew from 1 church to over 200 churches and preaching points. From 1967 to 1976 the Bartels worked in northern Mexico and then returned to the U.S. to engage in evangelistic work and church building among the Hispanic population in the western U.S. Missions has become a legay of the Bartel family. Their 2 daughters and 1 son are also missionaries.
